The light came via the window,

Straight from the sun on the East,

And reached my closed indoors,

There love rays found their rest.

In the streams of light I clearly saw,

The flecks you rarely see,

Out of which the Almighty made,

A name for one like me.

I’ll try to say a little more:

The light went on and on,

Through all the rooms,

And then found all doors closed.

All busy trying to escape,

But it was trapped on,

And finding me free,

I tumbled up with its formless nature.

I’ll try to say a little more:

Love went on and on,

And tried to wrestle me,

But finding me stronger, I won.

Seeing that it couldn’t overpower me,

Love itself said,

“Let me go, for it is sundown.”

“Not until you teach me your ways,” I said.

I’ll try to say a little more:

Love went on to say,

“Now that you’ve struggled with me and overcome,’

I will teach you my manners.”

Love went on to ask,

“Tell me your given name,”

Mumo, or “Grace” in the queen’s language,

Or unmerited favour, that’s the given name.

I’ll try to say a little more:

Love went on to say,

“Now that you’re the favoured one,”

I will tell you who I am, take notes:

“I am patient and kind,”

“I don’t envy nor boast,”

“I am not easily angered, I always hope.”

“I protect always, I trust always.”

I’ll try to say a little more:

Love went on saying,

“I am not self-seeking, nor proud,”

“I persevere and I’m no recorder of wrongs.”

“I never delight in evil,”

“But I rejoice in truth,”

“I never dishonor others,”

“And unlike others, I never fail,”

I’ll try to say a little more:

Love went on and on,

“Though I am also humble, let me add,

Of the three of us, hope, me and faith, I’m the greatest.”

I’ve had choices,

Since the day that I was born,

Some were right and some wrong,

Today I’ve chosen to listen to you, thank you love.
