“There is no God!” the verdict ran;
Three likes confirmed the learned man.
He closed the heavens with a post,
Then checked which comment pleased him most.
Poor Jonah met a bitter fate:
Too strange for minds so up to date.
Yet “all religion rests on lies”
Slipped down without demanding whys.
“Think for yourself!” the chorus cried,
Then cheered the thoughts their friends supplied.
They found all creeds a prison cell,
And liked their own conclusions well.
Let science test, let knowledge grow;
There is no shame in “I don’t know.”
But tracing how the branches came
Does not settle every deeper claim.
The psalm speaks first of what hearts say,
Where pride can quietly have its way.
Before I make its fool of you,
Lord, search my clever comments too.
